Lorraine-Dietrich took part in the first 24-hour endurance race at Le Mans in 1923. After the victory of 1925, the men of the factory of Argenteuil decide to make a synthesis of the modifications of the previous year for the version of 1926. For the radiator, it will be the type of the 1925 No. 4, whose assembly is simpler, the system more efficient and lighter: two small oil radiators appear on either side of the water radiator. This leads to modifications of the design of the grille. To avoid not being able to use the total reserve of 100l of gasoline as happened in 1925 and running out of gasoline given the higher position of the carburetors compared to the bottom of the tank, it is decided to add a hand pump for pressurizing the gasoline tank.
Regarding the bodywork, the storage system for spare wheels in a compartment located under the trunk in the rear end is adopted. The batteries, as on the 1925 model, are repositioned in profiled boxes integrated into the footboards. The new ogee-shaped radiator is smoother and more modern. On the edge of the dashboard is installed the "billiard" tachometer invented by the Barbier & Sons Company to count points in billiards. This one is much easier to use than the revolution counter used until then.
It is a winning hat-trick that takes the 3 steps of the podium.
