Driven by Jean-Louis Bousquet for Renault Sport during the 1987 French Superproduction Championship. The team finished 5th overall in the series.

The 1987 French Superproduction Championship was part of France’s national touring car scene, featuring highly modified production-based racing cars built for sprint circuit competition. Raced on major French circuits such as Paul Ricard, Dijon-Prenois, and Nogaro, the series emphasized high power, wide racing slicks, and aggressive bodywork within a silhouette-style formula that rewarded acceleration, braking stability, and chassis control.

A standout competitor in this era was the legendary Renault 5 Turbo, developed by Renault. Although originally designed for Group B rallying, the Renault 5 Turbo was also adapted by private teams for circuit racing and national touring car categories. Its compact mid-engine layout, turbocharged performance, and lightweight construction made it a highly distinctive and competitive entry in modified production racing formats.

In the Superproduction field, the Renault 5 Turbo was transformed into a full circuit racer with widened aerodynamic bodywork, upgraded suspension, and high-performance slick tires. On tight French circuits, its agility and explosive turbocharged power delivery allowed it to excel in technical sections, where rapid direction changes and strong traction out of slow corners were essential. While larger saloons often held an advantage in top speed, the Renault 5 Turbo remained a popular and charismatic contender in the hands of skilled drivers and privateer teams.
